Where Do You Start? Website, Social Media… or Ads?

A common question clients ask me
“I want to get my business out there. Should I start with a website or social media?”And my honest reply? “It depends. But let’s not skip ahead.”
Because here’s what I’ve seen: Some clients come in with nothing at all. Others? They’ve scattered pieces everywhere ; a dormant Facebook page, a half-finished website, a Canva account floating around, a Google form buried in emails…
And somehow, they wonder why things feel messy, or why inquiries don’t convert.
First: Anchor the Business with a Website
You don’t need 5 tabs or a full e-commerce setup. But you do need a home base.
Even a simple, single-page site with a clear description, contact details, a bit about what you offer, and how to work with you sets the tone.
People Google.People click links.People want to land somewhere that feels legit.
If there’s no website, even the best social media content starts to feel like noise without structure.
Social Media is the Bridge, Not the Start Point
Social media helps you connect. But if your only presence is online posts with no destination? That’s like hosting a party without a venue.
Use social media to show what you’re about ; tone, style, personality but it should always lead somewhere.
What if You’ve Got Bits & Pieces?
You’re not starting from scratch; you’re sorting the puzzle.
I help clients map it out:
That form you created months ago? We link it properly.
Your Google folder full of content? We turn it into clarity.
That one landing page you forgot about? We polish and align it.Then we bring it all together: clean, simple, and easier for people to say yes.
And Ads? They Come After
Ads aren’t the magic wand.If the systems behind them aren’t in place — website not updated, social content unclear, call-to-action missing — you’re basically pouring money into noise.
Ads are to amplify clarity, not to compensate for the lack of it.
So where should you start?
Start where it brings structure.Start where your business feels real; not just present, but prepared.
Your business doesn’t need to be everywhere. It just needs to be clear where it is.
