5minutes Clarifying Beats 5Hours Redoing

We’ve all been there, receiving a task or request that feels vague, half explained, or open to multiple interpretations.
The result?
Confusion
Delays
Extra back and forth communication
Sometimes, frustration on both sides
The truth is unclear instructions don’t just slow down a project.
They affect trust, efficiency, and the overall outcome.
What I’ve learned is this:
It’s not about blaming the person who gave the instructions. It’s about creating clarity together.
Asking clarifying questions upfront saves far more time than redoing the work later.
Clear communication is a shared responsibility, both in giving and in receiving.
These days, I’d rather spend five minutes clarifying than five hours redoing.
